Shipwire Alternatives: Beyond One-Size-Fits-All FulfillmentFebruary 10, 2014 by Matt Rogers
At Alive Fulfillment we often talk to prospective clients about their experience with Shipwire. Though there are many benefits to using Shipwire, such as comprehensive online management software and a network of global warehouses, not everything is peaches and cream. Here are the common complaints:
- Inventory and order minimums
- Stringent labeling and barcoding requirements
- Lack of dedicated account managers
- Inability to visit warehouse
- Lack of customization
Not that there’s anything wrong with this. There are many companies with product profiles and scenarios where Shipwire is a good fit — namely, bulk goods or drop shipping internationally. However, there are many situations that call for an alternative to a one-size-fits-all, purely transactional fulfillment operation. Those situations include:
- Custom product care, repackaging, or assembly needs
- Sales promotion, multi-channel or subscription based kitting requirements
- Newer companies that aren’t quite sure of their business model
- The need for more services beyond fulfillment
There are many Shipwire alternatives that provide these types of services. Generally, these companies aren’t trying to be the biggest fulfillment company in the world — they are intentionally targeting the type of customer that doesn’t fit into Shipwire’s mold.
At Alive Fulfillment, sales representatives are trained to work with prospective clients to identify areas where they can grow. We work with clients who have never sold a single item, clients who have outgrown their garage and want to spend less time packing boxes, and clients with dynamic fulfillment needs that require the kind of care and attention that only dedicated account managers can provide. Unlike Shipwire, Alive also provides comprehensive website design and development and online marketing services, providing an umbrella of services focused on helping clients grow and prosper.
Now, we’re not going to proclaim that we’re the best option for everyone either. In fact, when we get calls and emails from people with international drop shipping needs, we explain that we may not be the best option. At the end of the day we hope to find clients who want real partners to help them grow and succeed— a niche for which we are finding there is no shortage of opportunity.
